Teen Court

Volunteers for Youth welcomes teens interested in becoming Teen Court volunteers!

If you are a youth, aged 13 or older, and interested in volunteering with Teen Court find a detailed description of Teen Court here. To volunteer as a juror, simply complete the youth volunteer application with your desired county.

To volunteer as an attorney:

  • Complete and return the youth volunteer application to the coordinator listed below.
  • Serve as a juror before going through attorney training.
  • Attend attorney training.
  • If you are 13 years old, have a teacher, boss, coach or other adult (not a relative) complete and submit this recommendation form directly to the coordinator listed below.

Guidelines

Community members and prospective volunteers are welcome to observe Teen Court, but should contact the Teen Court coordinator prior to observing. Though Teen Court welcomes observers, proceedings are confidential and therefore, an oath of confidentiality must be taken before observing Teen Court.

Limited opportunities are available for adults to serve as Teen Court volunteers. Volunteers may serve as courtroom judge or courtroom monitors. UNC law students volunteer to assist teen attorneys with trial preparation, serve as jury monitors, and facilitate attorney trainings.
